Westminster Train

Westminster Train

Jan. 12, 2018 by Kevin Dayhoff

The train passes through Westminster on Jan. 12, 2018

After the American Civil War, expansion of the industrial, commercial and employment base in Westminster was partially fueled by the arrival of the railroad in 1861. One of the first meetings to bring the railroad to town occurred at the Court House on April 7, 1847. It would take another 14 years of studies, resolutions, commissions, and committees to get the railroad to town.

The Carroll County sheriff’s office has been a whirlwind of activity ever since retired Maryland State Police Captain Jim DeWees took office last December 2 as Carroll County’s 58th sheriff.

DeWees takes office at a time of great changes in law enforcement. Not to be overlooked is the heightened scrutiny – and danger – in which law enforcement officers find themselves these days.

Among the many new approaches initiated recently; the sheriff’s office has announced a long over-due initiative to equalize the due process, retirement, and compensation disparities between the sheriff’s deputies who work the county roads in a law enforcement and investigations capacity with that of the men and women who work as correctional officers in the county detention facility.

Eagle Archive: A New Windsor summer made glorious by William Shakespeare

Eagle Archive: A New Windsor summer made glorious by William Shakespeare

By Kevin Dayhoff, August 26, 2012: https://wp.me/p8C7tH-am On the morning of Aug. 22, in 1485, a defining moment in English history took place with the death of Richard III in the Battle of Bosworth Field.

This of course, leads us directly to the summer of 1938 at Blue Ridge College in New Windsor.

Well, sorta-kinda.

I'll explain … after I wax poetic with William Shakespeare: "Now is the winter of our discontent, Made glorious summer by this son of York…"

Many will recognize that these lines appear in Shakespeare's "Richard III" — the last play of a study in history of the Wars of Roses by Shakespeare, which includes, "Henry VI, parts 1, 2 and 3," "Richard II" and "Henry V." Of all of Shakespeare's work, "Richard III" remains my favorite (followed by, on any given day, "As You Like It").

Grace Lutheran Church "Grace Weekly" 2/1/2018

Weekend Worship

February 3 and 4, 2018

In Sunday’s gospel reading, Jesus shows His power by healing Peter’s mother-in-law, but He also chooses to have His power hidden from others. This year listening to Mark’s gospel, we often will hear about Jesus as hidden in His weakness and crucifixion, but made known as the risen Christ to believers both then and now. The Holy Spirit empowers us to see Jesus at work in our world in many hidden places.

February 4th is Scout Sunday. Cub Scout Pack 393 and Boy Scout Pack 393 will be honored at the 9 o'clock worship service

Please join us for worship this weekend:

Saturday at 5:00 pm
Sunday at 7:45 am, 9:00 am, and 11:15 am

Christian Education for all ages at 10:15 am
